Steam Downloads

Two things...
How come I can't DL at my full capacity... 2000kbs (I get it on some downloads)

And is there any way to enable the downloads while I play something else?

My max and general level of d/l is about 600/700 k/b. Although it regularly drops around the 100 mark.. I think possibly its demand on the game being downloaded. Just after I bought L4D I had a hugely slow download rate.

Hmmm, wouldn't have thought Bioshock would be in too high demand.
I got like 600/700 kb/s
Whatever, it's done now :D

A 96 rated game for £3.49?

I bought it and my nephew bought it (the same day as you perhaps)

So probably a great number of other people on Steam thought Bishock was a bargain too

Count yourself lucky, my N. Wales connection maxes out at 180kB/s

I know its a done deal now, but there could of been any number of reasons.

In this situation, I would pause the download, close steam, maybe restart the router, then restart steam and restart the download. It could just be the particular file server you were on was naff/full etc.. Ive had this sort of thing in the past with just normal windows downloads, decided to cancel them and try again with seconds later getting whopping speeds...

Cheers IXl, i'll take that into accout when I have to download stuff next time.

It's not in the current best sellers, but maybe they don't put the heavily discounted ones in that list.

Not sure if this is true or not, but I seem to recall it can depend on the content server steam assigns to you - usually the least busy/fastest one to your location. I beleive deleting the .blob file and a few .dll's will reset your default content server.

Again I could be wrong on that, never had a problem myself, steam will usually hammer my connection at max speed til its done.

no your right that does work, but sometimes it can take 8-10 deletes and restarts of steam so its not really practical but it does reset your content server
