Windows on seperate partition

ok so i just reformatted me pc

and i decided to partition my HD into 3

one for windows, 1 for game and 1 for general

problem is i underestimated how much space windows takes up so the drive that it its installed to (c:/) only have anout 140mb left on it

is that gonna cause me problems?

I think XP says it needs 100mb free to run well... but I don't know whether that has to be on the same partition or nor.
If it's an NTFS formatted partition I believe GParted lets you "grow" the size of a partition, I don't know whether that will require a windows re-install :S

Yes!

Windows has a mind of its own when it comes to space. You can shift stuff out of your C: drive like the swap file but all those dlls that get stuffed into system32 are going to fill it up in no time. btw, how much space did you allocate for C:?

I've seen a sys admin with many years experience, insist that 6gig was plenty for windows server 2003, we have been stuck with this decision for the last 5 years as going back and extending/reformatting the partition was a non starter as the server was in continuous use. Pain in the bracket!

C:/ just has windows on it and the other things that auto get added when u instal windows

i allocated 5.5gig it now has 2.1gig free so tahts ok, as nothing but the odd gfx driver will now be going on there

d:/ has 35gig and is gonna have my games.. well just CoD5 and Steam

and e:/ has 109gig, and thats for all general crap

so lets see how this goes :)

I recently had to adjust the size of one of the partitions on my hard disk and I found this:

Easeus Partition Manager

It's free and it worked. Jobs a good'un.

I got one of them asus EEE 901's a while ago, you only get 4GB primary HDD combined with all the usuall crap the force on you doesn't leave much room.

I then heard about windows FLP! (fundementals for legeacy PC's) It's a trimmed down version of XP but remarkably it still supports and does very well everything I could want from it, only difference is instead of a few hundred MB free theres nearly 2GB on the 4GB :)

So if your tight on space - Win FLP!
