Re: server 1 ping

Me and mankey rabbit had similar problems before . Turned out it was one of the hops on the way to the server ( Our beloved friend rapidswitch ). Numerous calls to rapidswitch provided no joy but 2 weeks later they must have doen something as the problem righted itself . Try doing a tracert to the server IP and see where your ping is jumping .

Re: server 1 ping

Depends if he connects to each server at a different times of day.

Do a trace cert on both ips mate at the same time.

have also noticed on net_graph 3 on other servers like server 2 etc the "in" numbers run up and down close to the last one, however the "in" number on server 1 moves eratically, as if there is a lump of info coming to me, then a little, then a lump and fluctuates between 44 and 1132.- could this be something to do with it- getting too much info at one time causing a high ping

Re: server 1 ping

Hmm.

Theres one in HLSW. Could you try that please? Its simple, you put the ips (inc ports) for all your fav servers in, and just right click on each one, select "open trace route dialogue". It shows all the hops, names each one and shows a ping line graph x time for each server youve selected.

If you can do that for each server it would be great and do screen shots of each one.

Just a thought.... its up to you anyway. In the meantime I will have a think.

Re: server 1 ping

Download HLSW here:- http://www.hlsw.org/?page=download&category=hlsw

Install and add the ip's so they look like this example for server 1...... 78.129.134.9:27015

Follow IXL's instructions and we will keep our fingers crossed we can help with the info you get. Remember - DONT blame the server - it is working fine. It is YOUR connection to the server that has problems, and we are here to help you try and sort it :D

Re: server 1 ping

trying that now. sorry, i dont mean to sound like im blaming the server. my tech knowledge is very limited(ie only what i have experienced before), so i am just posting what i think may be helpful, because without showing someone directly on my computer im finding it hard to explain things in more depth, or using the right words.

i'll update shortly, and thanks for everyones help so far

Snoops.. if you can explain why or what happens with HLSW that your having problems understanding, we might be able to assist you sooner. Im sure if you tried just a little harder, you will work it out. How far have you got in HLSW? Have you put our server ips into the IP/Port address bar? ( top left corner) After you enter each server and correct ip, press enter and it will add it to the list below.

All you need to do is add them in, so you have a list of servers like this image shows...

Image

Once you have done that, all you then littereally have to do is right click on one server and select "open trace route dialogue"

It will open up another window which will look like this:

Image

Give it a few mins and then take a screen shot of each server so we can see how the pings perform on all the hops over a couple of minutes.

Do the same for the other game server ips.

Although the ports are nto shown, im just interested in seeing if there is any dispute. There might even be an issue on your own pc with a port... Do you run any software firewalls btw? Zonealarm or anything?

I would also like to see the same for a NON OFc Server.

Re: server 1 ping

What about the other servers... even non ofc ones... did you try that as I suggested?

That seems really odd to me... Almost like you have a BLOCK on an ip range... What worries me more , is that the first ip should show as your router.. and its not even showing that..... Do you actually have a router or are you on a USB DLS modem? 14 invisbile hops... 8O

Try it on ALL the IP's we have as well... inc the 78.129.134.10 set.

Re: server 1 ping

You cant put a port in the actual trace route, just as long as you have the ip and port in the games ip/port list... It will always just show the ip ( not inc the port ) when you do that trace.

If you wanted to install something like "logmein" ( google it ) tempoarily, I can take a look on your machine remotely... Other than that, we could be here ages working out the cause.

What happens when you connect to my own online server ?

Re: server 1 ping

Try doing it without the port.
Also try to ping one of my servers which is actually hosted by rapidswitch in their building.
