Just got a steam update for CSS! Really!
Engine
SMX, GCF, and SYS files cannot be downloaded
Files whose extensions contain whitespace are not allowed to be downloaded
Filenames that begin with path separators are not allowed to be downloaded
How strange! Looks like someones been hacking CSS.
If anyone don't know yet, my ping has been crap for 2 nights now. I can see on my bandwidth monitor in my router that there's nothing coming out of my machine until I start up CSS then I can see my RX rate climbs much higher than what I see in a normal game. Close CSS down and it disappears. However the extra bandwidth should not be enough to effect my ping but it does. anything from 150 to 500ms when it's usually 70ms.
My son does not report any problems with his gaming experience.
I've scanned my machine for trojans, viruses and spyware and found nothing. Checked my CSS files - they pass. Rebooted machine, router, switch. Fek.
I've now installed zonealarm, I was hoping to spot what was using the bandwidth but the latest ZA does not have that feature any more! Bugger!
One thing. The last couple of times my PC has started up (this started just before the ping problems began) I've seen this:
DEP (DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION) has stopped :generic host process for win32 services. This is the dreaded svchost, that program that nobody knows what it does but you can have lots of them beavering away on your machine doing something (windowy)
Any advice, suggestions appreciated.
Very interesting

Re: Very interesting
I had heard that some people ( how true this is I dont know ) where they had a virus in the actual jpg image, when they imported into their game spray...
This in turn caused all sorts of in game issues....
Just at thought.
