Wifi-ish question.
Hey, Im looking to set up a fairly weird system. I have a camera, with a wireless transmitter that has its own IP address. If I get this new mifi device thing, (mobile wifi, that lets me connect anything with wifi capabilities) can I set up some sort of network, that when I take a picture, it goes through my mifi, and sent to some sort of network box, or preferably an FTP?? can give details on what the models of things are if it helps?

Is it a locker room , a bathroom or your sisters bedroom that you want to put this "weird" setup in?

ROFL, Slarty, I was thinking the same thing... lol Esp when he mentioned, model numbers... I thought he had Lucy Pinders mobile number at hand...lol
Anyway, back on subject. We have simular budget and high end wireless cams that work the same way for our security cameras at our different sites, so we can remotely see around our buildings from anywhere in the world, or in huge cableless areas, such as greenhouses or warehouses. The cameras, esp the wireless ones are getting pretty good, but its the software/back end thats a bit poor on handling the data it recieves...
Is it a live feed you want, or are you just after still images a few minutes/hours later (
) ?
Presumably, if your going to try and send that data to a mobile device, its going to need some sort of compression to get it to your mobi device without the huge cost element.....
Why not stream it to a website portal, on a specific port or maybe via a java applet, instead of FTP ? You can them browse to that page from your mobile....

Re: Wifi-ish question.
I wasnt on my own PC at the time so couldnt get links, and you guys arent far off the mark with the guesses. Its for a friend of mine (ha ha ha, cliche or what!) but seriously. He has a nikon WT4, which is the wireless device, which Im told will transfer the photographs (still images, high-res) to something with wireless capabilities. I havent seen the thing or anything, so cant verify. What Im talking about is taking a picture with the camera, and sending it through WT4 to THIS which will then give me some way to put it up on the netz, for passworded access. Pictures cant be downsized in quality unfortunately, and need them ASAP really, but could be to two or three sources, so they cant go straight to a single laptop.....

We need to know what you and said "friend" are up to

Sound dodgy and I dont like it.
End of help.
End of help.
Re: Wifi-ish question.
*sigh* its not dodgy..... if it was dodgy I wouldnt have posted it here. hes a freelance photographer, sells pictures of bands and things to newspapers for a living, and because of how long it can take to get sorted with photographs, photoshopping them and things, hes missing out on sales.

Re: Wifi-ish question.
Like Shlack says, we need to know what your upto. If you were more open with what it was you were trying to achieve from the outset, rather than stating it as a "weird system" we might of been more willing to help. If you read what you put, you have to agree , it looks kinda suspect.... and we all seem to agree that opinion.....

Whats if for then groinshot? A little explanation for why your "friend" needs this "weird" setup to remotely take pictures and I'm sure our resident techies will have it up and running for you in no time.
