Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

Hey para I think thats a neat solution if you can jam another double width card into your mobo...

BFBC2 figures show 5770 crossfire keeping up with a 5870, and I'm running BF3 on my 5870 absolutely FINE. (I'm running 3600x1600 across 3 screens ahd had to turn down BF3 settings to Medium while BFBC2 was on something higher - assuming you have some normal-sized screen you should kick ass.)

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

sure overclock the E6700... I don't know why you wouldn't have already if your mobo supports it. My last PC was a E6700... 2.66GHz standard (as far as I remember) and I upped mine to 3.5GHz on the stock Intel cooling and voltages. There's lots of guff on the web about cranking them up quite a bit higher but then you have to work harder to get stability and certainly mess with both the cooling and up the voltages - go for it if you feel like it but I couldn't be arsed and took a freebie easy upgrade. My next PC was a i7-920 and that's pretty much in the same space as the E6700 - expensive but with a lot of free upside.

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

Am running a 5850 on high settings with no real problems, other than the normal eta glitches.

am thinking of upgrading to a 6970, but Mr Ionwig is suggesting that it might be better to wait until Jan for the next batch of ATIs designed BF3 likely to be a similar price.

Thoughts anyone?

I recommend buying the 6970 straight away, for a small fee I can dispose of your 5850 for you.

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

Well after a bit of crafty bidding on ebay, i have managed to get another 4Gb Corsair Xms DDR2 for £28 and a second Asus HD5770 the same model as my existing one for £56, total cost of upgrade £84. aa) which makes my old rig now look like this:

Core2Duo E6700 2.66Ghz Cpu
Zalman Cpns 9900 Cpu Cooler
8Gb Corsair xms DDR2 800mhz Ram
Asus P5W DH Delux Mobo
Corsair 700w Psu
Two Asus HD5770 Gpu's in crossfire
Corsair 60Gb SSD Hdd (boot)
two Seagate 500Gb Hdds (storage)
Razer AC-1 sound card
Windows 7 64bit

All running at 1920 x 1080 res

Should that be enough to power BF3 smoothly till i can afford a new rig ?

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

It certainly should manage to run it, but you still have a lot of room in that CPU!

Here is an easy step by step guide for you Para, that will open up a lot more horsepower for free!

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

Just a quick note to say i am really pleased with my cheapo upgrades performance (as per above specs), getting a steady 40-45 fps with most things on high and a couple on ultra settings at 1920 x 1080 res, not bad for a 7yr old machine aa)
now all i need is a fekkin internet connection ! GAH.............

Re: Updating my PC for BFBC3

Just a quick note to say I'm fucking RAGING

got by monsterously big 6970 today. It needs 2X 8 pin PCIE connectors, fuckers only give ONE adaptor.

On a brigher note, my new ram and 1tb hd work fine.

Still have to do the windows install on the ssd, pain in the balls
