1 major problem ive found is that i cant upgrade my ATI x1650 Gfx card drivers.... just cant do it.. and it seems to be affecting my CSS

Also can anyone in the know look at my post on this forum

Windows starter edition is going to be a cheapo version of windows designed for netbooks.

The way you come across is that "windows 7 only lets you open 3 apps" which is rubbish and i'll say again, just bashing windows coz u dont like it. You should have made you point more clear that it was a starter version that was going to be lower in price designed for netbooks.

and i think i read something about not being able to dual boot, cant remember, so sorry if u didnt write that, but if you did then its nonsense coz all you need to do is make another partition and install it on there, simple.

yes this starter edition is a little bit silly, but if you only want it to surf the web on ya netbook then why pay more for something you dont need.

no one with a PC will buy this version obviously. This is why they are offering a reduced cost version for netbook even if it is pretty pointless. the normal version wuill cost the same vista so its not a big issue.

TBH I wouldnt stick that you know how to use windows 7 on a cv. There is a high posibility they will think your retarded. I dont know about you but I've had some intresting interviews - but never one when they thought I was a retard. You have to look out for this kind of thing.

Aye, well that willbe down to the grub being config/installedincorrectly. If your booting linux the grub will take presisence before the boot.ini file. If you tinker about with it Bullet I'm quite sure you will get it working.

Downloaded this the other night . Thought this thread would be helpful to me before I tried installing but its so filled with arguments deviating from the original idea of the thread that it has proved frustrating trying to find any info . Maybe we can get this thread closed and start another one ( without any bullshit)

One always needs to install Windows first (put it on the first partition otherwise it can mess up drive letters, doh!), then install Linux. Linux will pick up windows partition and include it into GRUB. Unless Win7 is doing something horribly wrong, it should be able to dual boot - I have not tried myself.

Does Win7 come with more useful software in it or is it still GBs of .dll and nothing in it except calculator and notepad ?

as much as i loved Windows7 i'm now back with XP

gaming on old rigs, needs an old OS it would still seem.. no new drivers for my gfx card for windows7 meant that CSS ran at around 10-15 fps.. which ok was still enough for me to rape you pansies each side of midnight but still, it wasn't fun

so i'm back with my beloved XP where everything make's sense and im back up to the 90+ fps with CSS

that is quite interest, but im sure mine was driver related, couldnt find ANY to update mine and it said they were quite old

shame really, its a nice OS.. very pretty, just not very friendly for older rigs

well no actually mt HDD is fine, and my processor was fine, didnt slow down at all for me, contrary to what i've heard.

As an MS Consultant working with MS products every day I can understand the MS bashing of bullet and others. MS/Windows can be frustrating and is targeted by viruses, malware, trojans etc that the other operating systems aren't (although the prevelance of malicious software on other OSs has been rising). My company still runs XP internally as it is a mature operating system with the majority of issues resolved. We also had development issues when working on Vista (Muddy). Our recommendation, when customers enquire about any upgrade to a new OS (server or workstation), is generally to wait until the first service pack has been released. The first service pack normally resolves the major teething issues that can affect immature operating systems. Windows 7 may have less issues than other MS OS releases as I'm sure they don't want a repeat of the issues the Vista release encountered. Only time will tell.

My personal opinion is that the only reason to move to a new OS is if there is a specific need that can't be met by your current OS. At the moment I can't imagine why I'd need / want to move from XP ... a sexy new interface ... ??? Personally I'd wait until there was a hard and fast reason to switch, then upgrade.
