I already had Belarc Advisor installed so I used that instead.

I've been looking everywhere for a BIOS update/flash but I just can't seem to find it anywhere. I looked at HP's website and they had no updates for me. Then the BIOS manufacturer's website, nothing except a program I have to buy to use and that won't happen.

its says it finds the proper update for your board- or check the supported list.

hmmm i think there must be some other information about the correct name of the motherboard.

which sockel you use?! (kind of cpu) maybe there is a number on the motherboard or at the back of the pc something with numbers and letters

I tried what you said Lk3 but it didn't work said my motherboard isen't supported. I coulden't find it on the list either(http://www.ecs.com.tw/extra/eblu/index.html)..

I think I found the BIOS update but the damn thing only supports Vista. I'm running XP, that might be the issue..or?

Well that final link goes to V5.27 firmware but the picture you posted sez you are running 5.27!!!

So i'm running a BIOS that is only compatible with Vista on Xp.. That can't be good, can it?

It's not usually an issue. BIOSes are supposed to be operating system agnostic.

Personally I'd even re-flash your Bios with the same version if you cannot find an update. Seems something is corrupted. Still possible your ram slots fried, but very unlikely, as that would cause more dramatic issues. The reason for the Bios flash is to see if you can install you memory back in with no faults. If the faults remain, Get a cheap set of 2gig ram. Try it in each of the slots. If they all work, then the older RAM was at fault. If they work in some slots, but not others, then the motherboard is at fault and so on. You have to check things systematically when detecting problems on a PC.

A whole new motherboard would cost only £42 (Need to confirm it works with AMD 64 X2 Dual cores, but I believe it does. AMD make their slots backwardly compatible). This will also work with AM3 chips if you later decide to upgrade your CPU :- http://www.ebuyer.com/product/181968

A new CPU would cost £56.10 for a Triple core at 3.2 GHZ. That motherboard will also unlock the fourth core for free if it is possible (Worked in my second PC/Wife's).
