spotted the rarest of animals today ! the BT repair man ! they have finally gotten round to start laying a new cable from my house to the main road (about 2.3 miles) so finally something that looks like progress ! after nearly 7 months of increasingly irate emails & phone calls !

the other bit of good news is that the next glen over (Glentanar) which has just had the BET system installed is reporting speeds of around 2.4Mb ! if i can get half of that would that be enough to game on ?

Gaming does not need much. I have 1.6 meg/sec and because we have 3 to 4 users I limit the capacity allowed to each PC to 200 kbit/sec out the way and 350kbit/sec in the way. This is enough for gaming. It's the ping thats important, I think anything less than 100ms is fine.

I agree with you muddy. As long as your under the 100 line your good.

Aye , I had a 512k (0.5mb) line and used to get 50ms . More than good enough for gaming.
