my "smal" gtx 275 needs 2 and my new ATI HD 6870 needs 2 power plugs. thats nothing special schlaggi
but every good PSU HAS TWO! and why you need a new psu? you bought a second adapter but it has not enough power?

PSU is at least 4 years old, it has 2 X 6 pin PCIE power cables. the adaptor that came with the 6970 had one 8 pin feeding off the 2 6 pin leads. Was researching you can get a molex to 8 pin adaptor but its not reccomended.
Need a higher power PSU anyway given my new set up. The card itself needs 300 W the PCI slot itself takes 75 W, add in the mobo, processor, ram, DVD and 2 hard drives and its putting an awful strain on my current PSU (600? 650?).
Ordered a 750W PSU last night.

PSU arrived today, hopefully I will have a draw distance of infinity in Skyrim tonight!
