I was reading about this and apparently not. It is intigrated into the OS to such a extent it can not be removed (You can only use the microsoft update site with IE ect)

I know someone who upgraded from Vista SP2 to W7RC1 two weeks ago, it kept all his files and games.

I'm actually quite glad about this. Every upgraded computer I've ever seen has been fraught with problems, and ultimately had to be reformatted and put a clean version on anyway. There are so many differences from one major version to another that things just seem to go wrong. I like to reformat my computers every year or so anyway and was planning on doing so again when Win7 is released.
